Chinese classes meet once per week for a 2-hour lesson*. At each level, the program length is 8 weeks. We offer levels 1 to 6 and beyond.
HIGHLIGHTS: Experienced and qualified teachers, structured teaching, communicative approach, and measurable results.
TEXTBOOK: Integrated Chinese, Textbook Simplified Characters, Level 1, Part 1 (3rd Edition)(Cheng and Tsui Co). The textbook is not included in the price.
While we use the prescribed textbook throughout the course, the lesson plans exhibit teacher’s experience and the adaptability skills in view of the classroom's changing needs. We believe that using a textbook yields the best results for beginner and intermediate students. Therefore, it’s advisable to buy the prescribed textbook(s). They also provide explanatory information that may be useful for a questioning adult student and for homework.

Chinese Level 1:
- Goal: Build a solid foundation in pronunciation, greetings, and family vocabulary while gaining cultural insights.
- Pinyin: Master Chinese phonetics and tones.
-Greetings: Learn essential phrases and cultural etiquette.
-Numbers: Familiarize yourself with numbers and counting.
-Family: Familiarize with family-related vocabulary and simple sentences.
Chinese Level 2:
- Goal: Enhance daily activities, hobbies, and social interactions while deepening cultural understanding.
- Dates and Time: Learn to tell time, discuss dates, and seasons.
- Hobbies: Explore and express interests and hobbies.
- Visiting Friends: Master inviting friends, making small talk, and social interactions.
Chinese Level 3:
- Goal: Achieve proficiency in making plans, discussing academic life, and engaging in weather-related conversations while exploring deeper cultural aspects.
- Appointments: Learn to arrange meetings and manage time.
- Studying Chinese: Discuss study habits and classroom vocabulary.
- School Life: Learn about school routines, subjects, and extracurricular activities.
- Weather: Discuss weather conditions and seasons.
Kuang, J. B. (Instructor)
Kuang, J. B. has a Bachelor’s degree from University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Currently, he is a PhD Candidate at UMass Lowell. Although a science student, he has a passion for languages and does enjoy teaching his native language Chinese. He is also working as a teaching assistant which includes lecturing, designing homework, quizzes etc for his students. Before coming to the US, Mr. Kuang has worked as a Teaching Assistant in Hubei University in China.
